Five Steps to a Balanced Life

Wouldn’t it be nice if you just woke up one day and suddenly had a perfectly balanced life? If you felt like you had time for work, friends, family AND yourself and you felt healthy, nourished and well cared for? Well, let’s face it: it’s not going to happen like that! You need to take active steps to achieve the quality of life you deserve. Fortunately, it’s not that hard. A few healthy changes will make a world of difference in the way you view your days.

5 steps to achieving balance in your life:

Eat well

Food is fuel for our bodies, Plain and simple. So it makes sense that the quality of what you put into your body makes a big difference in how your body will run. So, make good choices when deciding what to eat, but don’t forget that it’s ok to allow yourself a little indulgence now and then!

Get up and move

Use it or lose it, it’s not a joke. Your body needs to move. Exercise boosts energy, improves mood, strengthens the body and keeps you healthy. But, hey, you don’t have to run a marathon. Take the dog for a walk, ride your bike to the grocery store or just get up and stretch. Start small if you need to, you’ll love the way you feel.

Create space for you

Employee, spouse, parent and friend; no doubt you play a lot of roles in life, but chances are you are neglecting one very important person: YOU!  Take half an hour to read, go for a walk, take a class, or learn a language! Whatever it is that you enjoy, make yourself make time for it.

Make your wellness a priority

You only get one body. Sound obvious? Sure, but how often do you push caring for your health to the bottom of the to-do list? Stop using time and money as an excuse to neglect your health. Invest in it the way you would anything else: with the knowledge that you will see the pay-off in the long run.

Save time for play

You work really hard, but what’s the point if you’re not having any fun? Whether it’s a game of golf with the guys, game night with friends or hide-and-seek with your kids, don’t forget the importance of play. Inviting fun and laughter into your life eases the strain of our daily responsibilities and helps to keep us happy, healthy and young. Laugh! Live! Life only happens once!
